INTEL Chipset GuideApril 1st, 2008 As the Core 2 reigns king and Moore's Law continues it's rampage through the industry, one can only raise a battered eyebrow to the amount of chipsets the industry is cranking out for the LGA775 platform. HardwareLogic presents a handy field guide to the numerous wild specimens we see in today's market, in hopes of alleviating just a little of that new build confusion with such a vast selection.

As the Core 2 reigns king and Moore's Law continues it's rampage through the industry, one can only raise a battered eyebrow to the amount of chipsets the industry is cranking out for the LGA775 platform. HardwareLogic presents a handy field guide to the numerous wild specimens we see in today's market, in hopes of alleviating just a little of that new build confusion with such a vast selection.
What we have below is a listing of the current generation chipsets for LGA775, those that support the newest Core 2 architecture and are considered a good choice for a higher level build. Omitted are the low-end spin-offs, such as the G35 or 630i, which often contain the same features just scaled down into a more budget friendly package. Also omitted are once enthusiast level chipsets that we find outdated or replaced with a superior architecture that renders them obsolete and as such unfit for a new builder's consideration (nForce 570, and 975X for example).
